Castle Hill in St Helens is renowned for two
things: its archaeological goings-on and its ghostly goings-on. For centuries
the latter took the form of an amorphous white figure.
One witness said he saw a white shape moving quietly towards him through the
trees.
On another occasion, a white figure hurled a motorcyclist from his machine.
We witnessed the following in the same place:
12 August 1999
Mike Birchall and I were walking through Castle Hill when, all of a sudden, we
felt someone watching us. As soon as we got to Newton Lake (a duration of three
minutes), I heard a man breathe heavily behind us. Instinctively I turned round
and took a picture. When I had the film developed there was a close-up orb on
the print. The orb is white with an orange and purple rim. I think the orb is a
soul.
9 February 2000
At the same time that I saw a white rabbit run up the embankment, I heard
movement from the footpath.
19 February 2000
I saw a white light (the same shade as the rabbit) on the footpath.
16 May 2000
I took three pictures (with a 35mm camera) in the same direction between
10.00-11.42am. I took the first picture after I felt someone watching me; the
second after I heard a shuffle sound and the third after I thought somebody was
standing there. When I had the film developed there was a disembodied head on
the second print. The picture shows a profile of a clean-shaven young man with
an old-fashioned hairstyle. I think he's Roman. There's a Roman Road nearby.
